Why a hair toner is more important than you think

Why a hair toner is more important than you think

One of the essential parts of a hair appointment is getting your color adjusted. If you have an upcoming meeting and are looking for some TLC, contact us at The Salon!

One essential service during any hair change is toning – this will help maintain your new look when it comes time to come back into our salon again. We’re happy to answer all of those questions about what a toner does or why we’ve included them as part of every visit here.

Suppose you’ve ever had your hair highlighted or dyed with permanent hair color. You know that the color change — from your natural hue to something new — can be dramatic. So much so that it makes you feel like a whole new person! If you want to think regularly, you might want to get a hair toner.

WHAT IS A HAIR TONER & WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

A hair toner is a demi-permanent hair color that can alter the hair’s color and pH level. Colorists use it to help cool down or warm up the exact shade of your hair when you leave the salon. As a service for non-color-treated hair, it’s a way to experiment with a little bit of color play without fully committing to new hair color. (Demi-permanent means what you think, a non-permanent color that will eventually fade.) Toners are also available in explicit form, where they act as more of a gloss for hair.

HOW IS A HAIR TONER APPLIED?

The Shades EQ toner is a colorizing agent that will make your hair seem much more vibrant and almost like you just stepped out of the salon. The ammonia-free product stays on for about 20 minutes before it needs to be rinsed, shampooed, and conditioned off.

HOW IS REDKEN SHADES EQ HAIR GLOSS DIFFERENT THAN OTHER TONERS?

You 100 percent need it at every service, not just for the condition of the color. However, it certainly impacts color and will be mixed by your colorer to balance out any ashy tone that might occur with a lightened hair hue. “It’s important because when people go from dark brown or black-hair colors on their virgin strands back to blonde, they tend to get ashier tones than if you do nothing before going lighter,” says Shades EQ’s founder Kyle Kunkel.

IS A HAIR TONER WORTH THE EXTRA COST?

Glad you asked! We think so! A hair toner, also known as a pre-shampoo deep conditioner, is an integral part of any healthy hair regimen. It helps to detangle your locks and remove all the gunk that’s built upon them after daily wear and tear. And we can’t forget about drying from washing and styling time which also leaves behind a residue that our fantastic product removes. It leaves your gorgeous locks cleaner than ever before with just one swipe.

Whether you’re a guy just trying to look fly or a lady trying to re-bond hair that’s been chemically processed, we’ve got your back with color-preserving toners. Book now.
